There's a couple of things that can help you:
add some music and sfx (I know you've already been told this but you know.... people demand it!)

there's a tutorial called "blan's guide to buttons" to help you stop the animation right at the beginning and a replay button at the end, I had the same problem with the NG preloader Idk how to fix it sorry :( and if you wanna go deeper in character design well there's tut called "character design" i suggest 6

all in all pretty good for a first :)
